HISTORICAL ESSEY

Department of Microbiology was established in 1936. It was headed by well-known microbiologist, Professor Napoleon Honsjorovskyj, graduater of medical faculty of Lviv University. Study of scleroma, initiated by professor. N. Honsorovskyj school, was developed by Maxim Muzyka, who was a head of the department from 1944 to 1966. One of the brightest pages of Maxim Muzyka’s organizing works in national educational direction was his work as an organizer, professor and dean of the medical faculty of the Secret Ukrainian University. He was the author of the idea of the Ukrainian hospital building in Lviv and a member of the institution building commete. From 1976 to 1990 Prof. O.Uhov was a head of the Department. Under his leadership, the problems of clinical microbiology and immunology were investigated. From 1990 to 2009 the Department was headed by Professor V. Danilejchenko. The main scientific articles of Prof. V. Danilejchenko are devoted to problems of molecular biology of bacterial viruses. Since the 2010, the department is headed by MD, Professor O.Korniychuk, whose scientific interests are related to clinical microbiology and introduction of the microflora of biological niches of the human body into the processes associated with tumorogenesis.
